Happy (Step)Father's Day!
Here we go, me and Sean, singing in the car, as usual. Sometimes it’s meaningful to us, sometimes it’s just fun to fool around. You know what I mean. When you’re alone, or in my case, with Sean, you might start singing along to a song. You know you don’t have any talent, but hey, who cares. Like I tell my husband all the time, “life would be boring without me.” He agrees with me….not sure if that’s a compliment or not. I’m gonna go with compliment. I asked Sean if he’d like to sing at home and video it and talk about it. He was grinning from ear to ear. He’s got the best smile! I”m sure you noticed. He once told me that he uses his smile to communicate. “People Like Us” by Kelly Clarkson We read the words, talked a little and then sang the song. When I asked Sean how he can relate to the verse, “Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes And hey, yeah I know what you’re going through” Sean said, “I get nervous.” By the way, when I say that Sean said “I get nervous,” I actually mean that Sean used his voice. Slowly but surely, Sean is vocalizing more. When we talked about the verse, “just wait, everything will be okay,” Sean said, “be patient.” As we went on, Sean used more phrases, “fight for your right,” He also said, “To everybody, people like us , we gotta stick together. My mom protects me. My life is good. You have to work hard. “ Enjoy the video! Remember what I said, it’s just for fun…..no talent required.

“Autism doesn’t come with a manual. It comes with a parent who will never give up.” Sometimes it feels like the road to recovery is so damn long until I remember “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow your progress, you’re still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.” ~ Tony Robbins My biggest tip - good nutrition and a healthy diet is my #1 priority - when you fix the gut, you fix the brain.
In honor of my mother (She did it all and then some!!!), Sean sings one of her favorites, "Top of the World" by the Carpenters.
